Jim Perry is a law enforcement professional and instructor with 29 years of experience, having served in a variety of operational and leadership roles throughout his career. He worked with the Jacksonville Police Department as a patrol officer, the Calhoun/Cleburne County Drug Task Force as an investigator, and the Auburn Police Department, where he retired at the rank of Lieutenant. During his time at Auburn, he served in patrol, investigations, K-9, School Resource Officer (SRO), community services, and narcotics, while also coordinating departmental training, leading small units, and planning and executing high-risk operations.

Jim is also a retired U.S. Army National Guard First Sergeant. His military service includes deployments in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm (Iraq/Kuwait) and Operation Restore Hope (Somalia) as a combat medical specialist before transitioning into the Military Police Corps. During Operation Iraqi Freedom I in Baghdad, he served as a team leader embedded with Iraqi Police, conducting security operations in a complex combat environment. After earning an International Law Enforcement Instructor certification, he became a primary instructor at the basic Iraqi Police Academy, training and mentoring developing police forces. He later deployed again in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Military Police platoon sergeant and NCIC detachment lead, working alongside U.S. Air Force Security Forces and U.S. Navy Master-at-Arms personnel. He retired in 2015 as the Company First Sergeant of the 1165th Military Police Company, Alabama Army National Guard.

Jim’s instruction is built on decades of operational experience across both law enforcement and military environments. He emphasizes sound decision-making, leadership under pressure, and the application of proven tactics and planning processes. His goal is to equip students with practical skills and the confidence to perform effectively in dynamic and high-risk situations.
